Q. Can SidingMatch locate
discontinued siding materials?
VIDEO
A. SidingMatch has an
extensive list of siding materials that have
been discontinued by manufacturers, but remain on distributor
shelves. This materials database is updated on an ongoing basis,
and material that may have been unavailable could potentially be
located for future submissions.

Q Why do you need a sample if
I know what my siding is? VIDEO
A. Repair siding can only be made if the Manufacturer, Series, Profile and Color names are
known. Many people know only the manufacturer or color name. What
makes this even more difficult is that siding companies routinely
change series and color names without changing the product – or they
make changes and keep the old series or color names. SidingMatch
uses a Color Spectrophotometer to analyze the color and amount of
weathering; as well as extensive comparison in our sample library to
determine grain embossment match. The best reports are provide from
a full profile sample – which includes top nailing hem and bottom
edge.

Q Why is an actual sample
better than a clear digital image?
A. It is much easier for
SidingMatch to narrow the field of thousands of choices of siding
if we can sample the color (using a color spectrophotometer)
thickness (measured with micrometers) and compare grain embossment
under magnification. Digital image reports take longer to sort
through the thousands of possibilities and usually include
additional suggested similar sidings, thus the report requires more
field comparison to decide which similar suggestion is the closest.
Digital images work well for metal sidings where painting the new
siding to match the old is planned or when obtaining a site sample
(destructive testing) is just not a possibility. SidingMatch
cannot identify images of vinyl materials by digital image due to
vast number of color possibilities.

Q What are the possible
results or types of SidingMatch reports?
A. SidingMatch
report outcomes
are many. Current and discontinued status are the first
determinations. SidingMatch may also suggest sumilar
Materials. A current vinyl siding may have
weathered to a point that the color aligns closer to another
manufacturer’s color than to the original color. If a siding is
discontinued SidingMatch can recommend and rate another
manufacturers siding. The rating is graphed and based on visual
characteristics such as Profile (shape), Grain (embossment), and
color. Colors are compared to original color and to the current weathered
color. The intent of the report is to give the customer all the
information to purchase the best siding to complete a repair.

Q How does SidingMatch ‘rate’
a similar siding? VIDEO
A. A scale is included for each
suggestion to provide a visual comparison for you to determin how similar the
suggestion is to the sample we received. Comparisons are given for
profile, embossment (grain) and color (original and faded/weathered
color).

Q. How will you deliver my
report?
A. SidingMatch can email or fax
your initial results to you. All reports are then followed up with
a copy by mail to the billing address. SidingMatch will
release reports only to the billing party unless authorized
otherwise.

Q. Can aluminum siding be
painted?
A. SidingMatch has done
extensive research into the paint-ability of aluminum siding. Many
paint companies have formulated paints specifically for aluminum
applications. Most aluminum siding manufacturers provide
information on how to paint their materials. For more information
click here for a link to our paint information.

Q. What if my siding is very
old - can you still find it?
A. sidingMatch
utilizes the most innovative color technology to interpret the
current color of samples submitted. Once evaluated, the color
composition is compared to all currently available colors and the
most similar suggestion is then determined. A siding may be
available in the color that was originally offered, but the best
match may come from a different manufacturer and/or series.

Q. Can vinyl siding be
painted?
A. Yes! With appropriate
preparation vinyl siding can be painted with excellent results.
Paint manufacturers are a great resource for you if this is
something that you are considering. We have compiled information
from paint and siding manufacturers. You can access
this information by clicking here.

Q. How do I submit a sample?
The best reports come
from complete samples in full height (including nailing hem and
bottom edge) of between 4 to 6 inches in width to show the
embossment pattern. A sample should be removed from the damaged
area so that the color is an accurate representation of the material
needed. Samples can be sent by the method of your choosing – USPS
or the expedited carrier of your choice (UPS, FedEx, Airborne, DHL,
etc.).
Q. How long before I receive
my report?
A. Standard reports are
available 5 days after receipt of your sample at a fee of $100 per
submission. Expedited reports are available within 48 business
hours after receipt of your sample at an additional fee of $50.
